In the tradition of a 50s and 60s coffee house, ARCA welcomes CUP Poet, Philip Terman and members of Catro for an afternoon of verse and notes, (Poetry & Jazz) at Lincoln Hall in Foxburg, Sun., Nov. 6th at 2:00 PM

Philip Terman, author of six books of poetry, will perform his poetry with members of the jazz ensemble Catro. Terman has read his poetry in many venues across the country. The event will feature collaborative pieces with Terman and the group, as well as an individual set by the band and a reading by Terman.
Philip Terman poetry works includes, The House of Sages, Book of the Unbroken Days, Rabbis of the Air, and The Torah Garden. His poems have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. He’s the co-director of the Chautauqua Writers’ Festival and teaches creative writing at Clarion University.

Mark DeWalt
Mark DeWalt

Mr. DeWalt is a freelance musician residing near Grove City, and he appears regularly playing piano and keyboard throughout the region. He has been the leader of the jazz band CATRO for over 20 years, performing in jazz festivals and clubs, and for private venues. CATRO has a number of CDs. Mark operates a private piano studio, does solo work and is active as a “sideman”. He has worked extensively with jazz vocalists presenting standards and cotemporary repertoire. He has also has preformed in blues and rock settings with a number of regional bands. Mark has performed on the international scene and, he was a member of the world-beat band”Bollo Mah Kissy” which toured South Africa. Mark has also toured and played in Norway and Sweden.

David Kana
David Kana

Playing Tenor Saxophone is David Kana. Dave graduated from Youngstown State University, and has a M.S. in Education. He is currently a member of the faculty of Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University teaching jazz improvisation, history and fundamentals. He is also a staff clinician and instructor for the Jamie Aebersold jazz camps. Dave works extensively throughout the region with numerous ensembles playing in every style of music. He has performed as principal tenor sax with the Benny Goodman Orchestra, and often plays with Mark DeWalt and Catro. He is featured on the Catro CD.
Carlos Cintron plays the Conga Drums and Percussion. He was born and raised in Puerto Rico, Carlos brings the authentic rhythms of salsa and Afro-Cuban styles to Catro’s sound. With ‘Bollo Mah Kissy’, he was featured percussionist at Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. He often performs with Catro and is featured on Catro CD.
While in Foxburg on Sunday plan to stop by the Red Brick Gallery and view the first art show in the Upstairs Gallery.
