8th Annual Parker Polar Bear Plunge

The post-plunge bonfire

308 swimmers braved the 33 degree waters of the Allegheny River, in Parker, PA on January 1st, 2014, for the 8th annual Parker Polar Bear Plunge. Their theme is, “Freezin’ for a Reason”, because the event raises money for local charities. Each year participants gather at Parker’s Landing Boat Launch, huddle around the bonfire until the green light is given to rush into the frigid Allegheny River. After rushing into the river for a few moments, the crowd then races back to shore and to the bonfire once again to warm-up and get dry as quick as they can.
