Over fifty valley residents braved the wind, snow and cold Wednesday night, March 12th to attend a presentation at the Crawford Center in Emlenton. The Trail Town meeting and program hosted by Emlenton Business Association and presented by the Oil Region Alliance team who shared the story of the positive impact of bike trails to communities in which they pass through, creating Trail Towns. Emlenton, Parker, Foxburg, East Brady, Franklin, Oil City, are all towns being linked by expanding bikeways of the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail.

308 swimmers braved the 33 degree waters of the Allegheny River, in Parker, PA on January 1st, 2014, for the 8th annual Parker Polar Bear Plunge. Their theme is, “Freezin’ for a Reason”, because the event raises money for local charities. Each year participants gather at Parker’s Landing Boat Launch, huddle around the bonfire until the green light is given to rush into the frigid Allegheny River. After rushing into the river for a few moments, the crowd then races back to shore and to the bonfire once again to warm-up and get dry as quick as they can.
Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts (ARCA) is pleased to announce that it has selected John Soroka of St. Petersburg as its new Executive Director for the regional non profit arts organization located in Foxburg. Current director Drew Orient after leading ARCA for nearly five years had submitted his resignation earlier in the year, with the agreement to continue through December 31, 2013. During the interim a search committee was formed, interviewed various candidates with Mr. Soroka being ultimately selected.
It has become a Foxburg Christmas Tradition, each December, Allegheny River-Stone Center for the Arts and the Madrigal Singers transform Lincoln Hall, Foxburg, into a great hall reminiscent of Medieval England. The king and queen arrive in grand flourish and invite all in attendance to share in a festive dinner. The madrigal choir, dressed in period costume, entertains with madrigal songs and traditional holiday carols. They serve each meal course, while a story unfolds set to music.
A Light Up Night has been scheduled for Friday, December 6th on Main St., beside Lynn, King and Schreffler Law Office. A variety of activities and prizes will be awarded for children in grades 6th and below. Any businesses insterested in participating can call Dixie at 724-867-0880.
Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts, knows it takes time to build an audience for performances outside the pop culture mainstream. This is part of ARCA’s mission, part of the creative process and part of the challenge to entertain as well as enrich. Sunday afternoon November 10th at 2:00 PM is ARCA’s fourth annual Poetry and Jazz Concert at Lincoln Hall. The first audience was small but enthusiastic and encouraged each year by added voices and applause Sunday’s concert promises to be the best yet.

A program called SING AND PRAY FOR AMERICA will be held at Foxburg’s Lincoln Hall this Sunday from 3:00 to 4:30 P.M. Veterans and Boy and Girl Scout troops are invited to attend in uniform!
It is that time of year again for the Farm & Country Farm Driving Tour. This is our fifth time through and we have made a couple of changes and added several things. This year’s edition is scheduled for October 12, 2013 and is running from 10 to 5 at most of the 13 stops. This year the Pumping jack Museum in Emlenton has joined us and should prove most enjoyable. Not only will the museum be open but also the chance for visitors to take a look inside the Crawford Center will be an advantage.
