Although the snow came too late for the sled dogs, Foxburg’s Winter Fest was a fun and enjoyable winter moment. Unfortunately warmer weather in the beginning of the week melted the previous week-end snow to bare ground. With dog teams and mushers coming from seven states and forecasts of only a few inches by Saturday morning race organizer Butch Alworth canceled the sled dog race earlier in the week. As he explained there has to be a sufficient packed snow base for the dogs to run, to protect their feet, and prevent cutting their paws on stones, asphalt or sticks.
