Bruce Erwin
Bruce Erwin

Bruce Erwin became excited about playing Scottish fiddle after discovering the fiddle contest at the Ohio Scottish Games. In 1997 and 1998 he won the open class fiddle contest and represented Ohio at the North American Scottish Fiddle Championships. Bruce has studied traditional Scottish music with Ed Pearlman and Ian McFarlane at the Ohio Scottish Arts School and with Bobby Brown a the Thistle School of Scottish Dance in North Carolina. Playing fiddle for folk dancing is an activity that has taken him through North East Ohio, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Ontario, Canada. After exploring several eighteenth century books of fiddle tunes, Bruce compiled and edited a collection of old Scottish fiddle tunes called “The Fiddler’s Wrist” published by FJH Music in 2003. He plays throughout the Erie Shores area in the pub band “Forsythe Special.” Mr Erwin resides in Oberlin with his wife, Joanne, and Kirby, the dog.
