Foxburg Naturefest Owl Prowl

Saturday evening May 4th, 24 hours later as part of the Foxburg Naturefest weekend ARCA will be hosting the second annual “Owl Prowl” at RiverStone Farm. This popular event begins at 8:30 PM twilight time. Gate fee is $5 per person and $15.00 per family. Gates open at 8:00 PM. Visitors will board wagons and are transported back into the woods, where Audubon guides will attempt to call in the owls. Last year the prowlers were visited by Screech owls and buzzed by their bigger cousins the Bard Owls. Please dress for the weather and the event goes on rain or moonshine, unless it is a thunderstorm downpour with lightning. Early birds can gather around a bon fire to swap feathered tales. Avid birders should also consider on Saturday the Golden Eagle Lecture/ Dinner earlier at Lincoln Hall. All are invited to return Sunday for the 5K Run/Walk at RiverStone Farm. The race/walk begins at the Event Barn area and course includes a run by the Mansion and through the hopefully blooming dogwoods.

Yeany’s Maple is a family owned and operated maple producer located in downtown Marienville. In operation for 9 years now, they produce on average 1,000 gallons of syrup each year. Mr. Yeany tapped over 700 trees at the Riverstone Estate this year, and produced the syrup for the Maple Syrup Festival. Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow, is the chant one hears as Foxburg prepares to host its first WinterFest, Saturday February 4th. A big event of the day will be the Sled Dog Fun Race at RiverStone Farm. The race will begin the day’s activities, with the gates at RiverStone opening at 9:30 AM.

Race events will begin at 10:30 AM with the presentation of various dog breeds, types of sleds, and explanation of the race, showing the race course layout and the rules. Demonstrations of the “mushing” equipment, dog team protocol, and mush commands will be included. Introduction of the Mushers will round out pre race activities.More

For just one day, on the 15th of August, 2009 Foxburg added a new dimension to it’s many facets – a celebration of Scotland. The sound of bagpipes filled the air as the strolling bagpipers marched about throughout the day. Men outfitted in their finest kilts roamed the grounds while sheepdogs rounded-up all of the roaming sheep. There was Scottish music, food and crafts at every turn, and even Scottish clans – the theme of the day was that of a land so rich in cultural heritage that it was teeming at the Riverstone Farm. Rightly so it was, due to the fact that the original benefactor of Foxburg, Joseph Mickle Fox, was responsible for bringing the game of golf to Foxburg after enjoying it in St. Andrews, Scotland. So many years after he enjoyed the Scottish countryside, the Scottish countryside came to Foxburg. It was a day like no other Foxburg had ever seen.More
